How do I define DNS A entry for main domain name?

I am trying to setup FortiGate to serve as DNS servers for domains hosted in local network.

I have defined mydomain.com as Domain name in DNS Database and defined a couple of DNS entries like test -> 192.x.x.x.

But how do I define IP address for the main domain itself? If I enter mydomain.com in DNS entries then FQDN becomes mydomain.com.mydomain.com which is wrong.

I would like to avoid using www if possible.
